    Why choose therapy?

    Why choose therapy?

The thought of reaching out for support can often feel daunting. Feelings of guilt or shame can bubble up and the idea of being vulnerable can feel overwhelming. Facing these experiences, without judgment or blame, is how therapy may be useful to you - helping you explore these thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
Counselling can offer you an insight, or a reframing, that can enable you to make changes and move in a different direction. Gaining greater self-awareness may feel uncomfortable at times but you set the pace and guide where you want the sessions to go.
The therapeutic relationship underpins everything that takes place and I offer a safe space to look at aspects of yourself and those who play a part in your life. We may explore relationships, patterns in behaviour, aspects of childhood, past and present life events; recognising that who we are and how we respond to circumstances and situations is inter-connected.
Counselling offers a confidential space for you to explore difficulties that may be affecting you, whether in the short or long term.

    My background

    Nesting dolls and creative materials

I have many years of experience working with teenagers, students and adults experiencing distress. Building relationships with young people started with my work in education - nurturing, encouraging and enjoying their company as they transition from adolescence to adulthood. My approach to counselling grows from this and everything pivots around a trusting collaborative relationship with my clients, where they feel safe to share issues they are facing.

Some of the approaches I use include -

    • Transactional Analysis

    • Systemic Therapy

    • CBT

    • Compassion Focussed Therapy

    • Solution Focussed Therapy

    • Creative techniques

    • Trauma Informed Therapy

As we explore what is going on for you, I will offer warmth, sensitivity and challenge. We’ll find the approaches that work best for you. I will take time to listen, without judgement, to help you make better sense of things.

Areas of my experience and expertise include: anxiety, low-mood and depression, stress, work difficulties, bereavement and loss, family and relationship issues, health problems, identity, people pleasing and perfectionism, self-criticism, and low self-esteem.

Sometimes, finding the words to explain what's going on can be quite challenging - we might draw, use clay, or work with different objects or emotion cards to help you explore your feelings and responses to situations.

I work in a trauma-informed way, noticing how the body carries the emotional load - we may work with the breath, grounding techniques and mindfulness.

If you have any questions about my way of working or would like to schedule a session, please get in touch today.
